ABOUT
My journey with conscious movement began when I found yoga at the age of 18. After 10 years of an intense yoga practice I began to burn out as my pendulum had swung too far in one direction. In 2013 Rochelle introduced me to Qoya. Rather than trying to perfect my technique and poses, I was relieved by the permission that Qoya offered.
“Pay less attention to how it looks and more attention to how it feels.”
Qoya was the exact medicine I needed to rebalance and reconnect with my spirit.
In 2015 I experienced the unexpected and traumatic loss of my husband. The next few years were a time of deep grief, deep healing, and deep discovery. It was in this time that I came to believe that our willingness to feel it all can be a portal to our awakening.
In 2017 I participated in a 2 year Ministry Training Program with the Center for Sacred Studies and in 2019 was ordained a Minister of Walking Prayer.
I view finding Yoga as the threshold for my journey and finding Qoya as the spark that illuminated more aspects of my being. I now find that a blend of yoga, Qoya, meditation, prayer, and play help me to feel more alive and more myself- each day aspiring to live my life as wholly (and Holy) as possible.
GETTING TO KNOW
Kaci Florez
WHAT DOES IT MEAN FOR YOU TO TEACH QOYA?
For me, teaching Qoya is about helping to create containers for healing to occur. Dancing alone is beautiful and has it's own unique healing qualities. But teaching Qoya is a way to invite others to dance in community which offers elements of healing that are are not present while alone. Dancing with others also introduces the opportunity for connection and is often more fun :)
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY TO SOMEONE WHO IS FEELING INSPIRED TO TRY QOYA FOR THE FIRST TIME?
The is no way to do it wrong. The way you know you're doing it right is if it feels good to you, but even more importantly is if it feels honest and true to you.
